Abstract

Early pregnancy is a risk factor for postpartum blues because young mothers tend to have limited mental preparedness, knowledge, and social support to face their new role as mothers, which can trigger stress, anxiety, and difficulty adapting after childbirth. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between maternal age and the risk of postpartum blues in the Limboto Community Health Center (Puskesmas) work area. The study used a quantitative analytical approach with a cross-sectional method. Sampling used non-probability sampling with a total purposive sampling technique, with 42 respondents. The results showed that the majority of postpartum mothers were of productive age (20-35 years), but the majority (18 women or 42.9%) were at high risk of postpartum blues.The results showed a relationship between maternal age and the risk of postpartum blues, with a p-value of 0.001 (≤0.05). In conclusion, early pregnancy is a major risk factor for postpartum blues, which impacts the mother's psychological well-being and infant care after delivery. This study recommends emphasizing other risk factors, such as husband and family support, and recommending screening upon discharge from the hospital or community health center to ensure postpartum mothers receive psychological support.
