Abstract

Occupational safety and health (OHS) is a fundamental component in industrial environments, particularly in high-risk sectors such as mining, where workplace accidents can cause serious injuries and operational losses. One of the main efforts to support the achievement of zero accidents is to improve employees' first aid skills through effective training methods. This study aims to examine the effect of first aid injury handling simulations on employee skills in supporting zero accidents at PT. X in Bontang City. This study used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design. The sample consisted of 60 employees selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through an observation checklist containing 26 indicators of first aid skills, including external bleeding control and fracture immobilization. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results showed a significant improvement in employees' first aid skills after the simulation intervention. The average pretest score was 25.33, which increased to 72.41 in the posttest. Statistical analysis showed a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant effect of first aid simulation on employee skills. In conclusion, first aid injury management simulations are effective in improving employee skills and preparedness in emergency situations. Regular simulation-based training is recommended to support workplace safety programs and achieve zero accidents in high-risk workplaces.
